This. Why would you want to send your children to CCD when it sounds like you hold the Catholic church in contempt? Send them to a different Christian church.

Do you think the Catholic Church is only priests and nuns? Most of the Church is not clergy. Our NFP course was taught by 3 couples.1 married 25 years, 1 married 10 year and the last married 3 years.

Why not send your child to a non-Catholic Sunday School? My child has not been baptized and goes to Sunday School. If he wants to join the church in 7 or 8th grade, then he can get baptized at the same time. He goes to a Methodist Sunday school.

the only time it would matter is if it is a sacrament year. Obviously you can't get first communion if you were never baptized.

Although the rules might say you need a baptism, call the religious education office, and talk to them. Nativity in Burke might be worth a try. They love everyone and have a large non-catholic attendance at mass (I don't know about CCD - I just teach CCD, I don't check the kids paperwork in my class)

Tell them you are looking to come back to the church, but since your kids are older you want them to have some education on the church before you baptize them.

I know - lying to the church. It's a great way to start off!

Most decent human beings have contempt for people who abuse children AND those who hide it for their organization's-- and their own personal-- benefit. My guess is Jesus Christ and his mother do as well.

You might want to try holy Trinity in Georgetown. i know several families in which the children are not baptized. I believe they may be planning on baptism at a later date, but it certainly wasn't a requirement for attending religious education. I would hope you would be pretty clear about what you are looking for, though. I am not sure that the education program exists simply to educate children About God more generally, as it is a Catholic religious education. If you feel that neither you nor your husband are Catholic, as opposed to merely questioning or disagreeing with some tenants, I would ask why you would want your child to be in this type of educational program. Perhaps you would be better served to attend various other churches with your child and find one you feel more at home in. I just wouldn't tell the church, in essence, that you are not Catholic, your husband is not Catholic, you don't really want your children to be Catholic, but you would like their volunteer to spend time teaching your kid about the religion. Just doesn't roll off the tongue so well.

Of course you can but they will try to get you to come back to church. Most CCD classes are taught by laity with occasional drop-ins by priests.

Work with the director of religious education at a parish where your DC will feel comfortable. In my DD's early grades, there were 2 unbaptised kids.

I was raised Catholic and I'd like my DC to understand Christianity and teachings of Jesus but I don't think I want to get him baptized. Maybe Baptized in a non-Catholic church but I can't get past the child sex abuse situation. I don't go to church much, DH isn't Catholic but we celebrate Christmas and Easter and I'd like DC to have an understanding of these things and why we celebrate them. Let's put it this way: I want God in our lives without the old men in robes telling us that birth control is bad and women can't be priests.
