Many are not attending Hardy because, until recently, they could attend Deal with minor effort. That has changed.

You can make smarmy comments all you want, but the need is there. The statistics and forecasts bear this out. Your ignorance does not change these realities.

So just to be clear- he wants to run a preschool- 8 neighborhood school in one location, a HS in another location, and a magnet HS in yet another location? HAvent there been a lot of problems with him trying to run just FS and SWW HS? Talk about hubris!

They ought to let neighborhood students in, but continue with an application-only arts & music track. That school is going to get significantly larger with the renovations, so why not expand its capacity?

It would take significant pressure off Wilson, and also would not disturb constituents' expectation that Ellington will remain where it is.

Remember that DCPS rates teachers according to their students scores, and that SWW is a selective school, where students already are high scoring.

That's the thing, though, Duke Ellington supporters want it to stay exactly where it is, convenience and facilities notwithstanding. I think it's related to a a long-term concern that residents in their current Georgetown location would like to kick the majority black school population out. This perception affects their reaction to arguments that a different location would actually benefit the school -- making it more accessible to more kids all over the city. The city has changed tremendously since Duke Ellington settled in Georgetown in 1974, including building an extensive subway system that is convenient to many DC schools, but not Ellington.

No one is proposing taking away Duke Ellington. The school would still exist and in a potentially more central and more convenient location, with maybe even nicer facilities.

Did anyone else see the NW Current article regarding SWW@FS principal Richard Trogisch (RT) proposing a high school at FS or in the alternative taking over Duke Ellington? As reported in the Current RT believes he could run that school and continue to run SWW High School. Just so I'm clear, that would be a neighborhood PS3-12 school potentially at the Duke Ellington site on 35th and Reservoir NW, and the selective admission high school on the GW campus at 21 and G NW.

He also stated, according to the Current, that the FS school needs to renovated before other schools because he is attracting top talent teachers. It sounds like he already has a head start, shouldn't other schools get something like a renovation if he is taking all the good teachers? He specifically mentions that his school should be moved ahead of Garrison's renovation.
