Cockatoo owner here. Bath every two weeks. Brushed every two or three days. She doesn't love it but gets a piece of raw carrot when we finish so she puts up with it. Haircut every six weeks. We feed her homemade food and I think it makes her coat grow thicker and more quickly. When they groom they also clip her nails.

We had a one for 17 years --because we didn't train him well he was fussy about having his teeth brushed and nails clipped but it seemed he viewed brushing like I think of a massage-yeah-but-be gentle - this is not a tough breed. His hair grew slower so a groom every 8 weeks was enough. we usually asked for the 'Teddy Bear cut'. May depend on your climate and how much time is spent outdoors and in humidity. This was one of the best dogs we ever had. Even when our DDs were old enough to left alone, they reported that they felt like he was the fish in The Cat in the Hat "Should you be doing that when your mother is out?"

I have a 7 year old cockapoo. We have her groomed at Happy Grooming in Arlington about every 8 weeks. She should probably go sooner though. We get a "lion cut". I don't like the ears and chin hair to be too short. No shedding at all.
Make sure you get a first generation - 1/2 poodle and 1/2 cocker spaniel. Some of the ones I've seen with different ratios (Cockapoo/cockapoo mix) are hideous.
I never brush her. She is a very, very sweet dog. Good advice about playing with feet and ears. I also suggest socializing the dog when it's a puppy. Get it used to kids, umbrellas, strollers, people, other dogs, etc.

Buster (the Cockapoo) was from a breeder I found online.. I honestly cannot remember their name but remember they were from the Mt. Airy, MD area. We just rescued Benny (the Yorkipoo) about a month ago from Tri-State All Breed Rescue in Hagerstown, MD (we found on Petfinder.com.)

I have two poodle mixes, and they are groomed every 10 weeks with a puppy cut even though they are 11 and 12 years ago. The best part of the grooming visit is that they also take care of the anal gland expression for a small additional fee. We had one dog get an infected one once, and I will never again try to save money by not having them do it!

HI. I am the OP. Thank you for your advice. And thank you for posting pics of your two sweeties. They are precious!! So cute. I like the idea of keeping the hair short. I've thought of getting little shaving kit/razor and doing it myself. I am not in favor of cutting toenails myself though. Leary of that and would rather have a pro do it.

So sweet!

We get him groomed every 3-4 months (we like to wait until he's a bit shaggy, weather permitting). We take him to Petco in Bailey's Crossroads, they are very good and not expensive at all.. We had one when I was a kid. She needed lots of grooming, and she got matted very easily. Our dog also had a poor temperament and would snap when you tried to brush her, so it was quite a nightmare!

We will be getting a cockapoo at the end of May. Can someone please advise me on the best way to groom a cockapoo..where, how often, how often do I brush? How much shedding should I expect?
