You should also consider public in Fairfax or Montgomery county. Fairfax has the AAP program (formerly Gifted and Talented) that starts in 3rd grade and schools in McLean/Great Falls are academically second to none. Thomas Jefferson is the magnet high school that is one of the top publics in the US and sends more kids to great colleges than virtually any private in metro DC.

Norwood, Washington Episcopal School, St. Andrews in MD. 2 religious are light religious.

SSSAS is also in VA and is generally considered, along with Potomac, the best of the VA schools. It is probably full, too, though.



I didn't include SSSAS because the OP said they wanted a non-religious school. We didn't consider Potomac or SSSAS because we wanted a K-8 school, so I don't have first-hand experience on what is the "best" but from what I have read Potomac is in its own league.

DS went to ACDS for K and 1st and the we moved out of the area a few years ago. I found the teachers in the lower school to be warm, caring and highly skilled in the classroom. The parents were also pretty low key even though a lot were high level gov. lawyers.
I'd recommend the school.

I think Pinecrest in Annandale still has openings, and they go up through grade 6. They have an application with the county government to add two more grades, though you'd have to ask them what their projected timeline is.

Who is the accrediting body for your current school? The National Association of Independent Schools? Check the website and find schools who also have the same accreditation and you will find a school that feels familiar. I recommend no greater than a 5-mile radius due to traffic.

Burgundy definitely is (grade dependent).

ACDS is still holding open houses so they must have space too. Also call Browne. All good Alexandria schools and all non-religious

We would prefer they don't attend religious schools as we are a mixed household (I'm Greek Orthodox, DH is Jewish). Are any school still accepting applications or have a rolling admission?
