Word of advice: Don't go shopping for a car payment. Negotiate the price of the car.

A new Honda Civic, mid-range, runs around $19,000, give or take. Tax and title and freight, out the door around $21,000.

At a decent interest rate, say 4%, you'll pay $475 per month if you finance for four years, or $387 if you finance for five.

Say you got a 0% interest rate, the monthly payment falls to $440 and $351, respectively.

Don't forget insurance. And property tax if you live in VA.
