The poster sounds like a jerk, but has a legitimate question. The only advice I can offer is to either answer his question or skip this thread. It is sad, but I suspect a lot of guys would react to special needs kids that aren't their own in this manner. I hope his girlfriend understands this and sends him packing.

Jeff,

I respectfully disagree.

So, if there was a similar posting in the Camps section reading:

My girlfriend's kid is [a child of xyz race or a named religion] and as you can imagine a real pain in the ass to be around. I'd rather have my summer [named race/ESL or named religion] free so I was wondering if any of you could recommend a summer camp I can send him off to? I'd love to send him to something out of state, like MD or PA but local is fine as long as they keep him overnight.

Would that type of post be OK with you? Even, as you say, if a lot of guys might react to this fictional kid in this manner for any of a number of reasons?
(it would not be OK with me and I'm guessing some of your general NT readers/posters)

If not, then I'm not sure why it's OK to ask same about SN.
Just my 2 cents. Thanks for reading.

ADDitude magazine keeps a summer camp directory of camps that serve SN kids.

Eh, I posted about Buckskin and Kodiak. Those camps are thousands of dollars and they're really great. If OP wants to pay for it, I just consider it an asshole tax.

No way in hell this is a legit poster. This is a stupid teenager playing a cruel prank.

No one in their right mind would come to THIS forum of ALL forums and ask such an inflammatory question.

move along people....nothing to see here.

I am just suspicious that this is not a real post because of the language used. "I'd rather have my summer special needs free?" I can imagine a special needs child grating on someone (I know my son can grate on me, and I'm his mother and adore him) and the poster not enjoying spending time around the child, but I can't imagine someone saying what the poster said in those terms.

Actually, I'd like to help, because getting him away from you should be a top priority.

What are his needs and how old is he? Budget and time frame?

You really need to be out of this kid's life, rather than doing it the other way around. Hopefully, mom isn't so desperate for the likes of you. Poor kid.

Please don't become this kid's stepfather. Neither one of you will be happy.

If you're just dating his mom, though, and want to pay for camp for the kid, then I'd go with Camp Buckskin or Camp Kodiak. They have long sessions and the kid will have a great time.
