You can also go to the county office where you delivered and request a same day copy be provided. There is a fee for this.

We thought we had ordered it too, but it never came, so we filled out the paperwork and sent it in with the appropriate fees. We decided to do it online.

Here's the official website: http://dhmh.maryland.gov/vsa/SitePages/birth.aspx

On the website you'll see a link to a company they use for online orders.

You will get a birth registration notice, which is enough to add your child to your insurance once you get his SS card. With that information, you can order (and pay for) the actual birth certificate if you want one.

You might want to call the hospital and check because it seems like two months is a long time.

OP and PP. You get the SSN by mail automatically. If you want a birth certificate you have to order it and it's $24 per copy.

I actually ordered DC's through VitalChek (information is on the DHMH site) since I wanted to pay by credit card and order online. The birth certificates arrived the next day!

The Previous Poster was right on. You have to order it and pay in order to receive a copy.

I gave birth at the beginning of April at Holy Cross, and I got my son's SS card about a week ago. I have not gotten the birth certificate and was wondering the same things about how to get it.

You have to order it.

I gave birth to my son at the beginning of March. The hospital had us fill out the paperwork for the social security number and birth certificate and said we could expect them in the mail. Nine weeks later I haven't received a thing. The website for the Vital Records Administration for Maryland is a little confusing--should I expect to receive a birth certificate from the state, or do I have to order one? The woman at the hospital made it sound like the original birth certificate would just be mailed to us. Would appreciate hearing others' experiences before I waste my time wading through gov't bureaucracy. Since we haven't received the SS card either, I'm wondering it the hospital itself dropped the ball.
