I resonate with V.C. Andrews books because I had a bad childhood and can relate to the protagonists in the novels.

Like, "Damn...I felt like that!" or "That happened to me too!"

Plus, the books are just darn addicting.
I love books that you cannot put down and these books suck you in and do not let you put them down.

Nice bitchiness.

I think a lot of adults look back fondly on and/or reread VC Andrews' batshit-crazy novels, regardless of their present literary tastes, because it's something from their youth. For a lot of people, it was the first "dirty" book they could get their hands on.

PP: To answer your last question, I think the reason the mother couldn't find a man close to where she lived is because after her husband was killed in the auto accident, he left her not only w/4 children to raise alone, but he also left her dead broke and in debt. The house wasn't paid for, nor was the furniture or the car. Everything was owned by the bank so she lost it all. In desperation, she phoned her mother who had previously disowned her and asked for help as she had not another soul on the planet to seek assistance from. The mother sent her money for her + the kids for train tickets and since she was rich, everyone thought they were going to live this great new life in her mansion. Well the mother did, but the kids were stuck in the attic for yrs. The reason the Grandmother had disowned the mother of the four children originally is because the mother and the children's father were in actuality "blood" brother and sister. Anyway, after they lived in the attic the older brother + sister became romantic as well due to living in such close quarters and having those developing hormones of puberty.

Some people think it is sick, but this was also done in Blue Lagoon I think.

I liked Sweet Audrina best because it wasn't a series.

I just watched some of the newest lifetime version of flowers in the attic. I actually started to feel a bit bad for the grandma. She most have known she was going to get stuck raising 4 grandkids because her narcissistic daughter was going to eventually dump them off on her. And of course there was the weird daddy/daughter relationship going on that she had to watch. Probably creeped her the hell out. She likely didn't know what the hell else to do with all these kids and she probably did kind of miss her only child. What still amazes me is that the dad died but had no life insurance or pension and he was going to be a vice president of a company. And how come the mom who was gorgeous didn't just find a new man close by where they lived?

Well "The Unwelcomed Child" unfortunately wasn't at any of the libraries in my town, and since I am a V.C. Andrews addict, I couldn't wait for them to get it. Besides these books come out in paperback anyway, and they cost like $7.99 so I just bought it. (Don't have a Kindle/Nook).

And you guys, don't have to be embarrassed about reading this books!! I take my V.C. Andrews books w/me to waiting rooms, ball games, wherever. I am proud to be a V.C. Andrews fan! Lol!

Yes, V.C. Andrews wrote originally, but then she died of breast cancer so her family hired a "ghost writer" to complete some of her stories she had left before she died as well as wrote some more based on her writing style. Her books and the style of her stories are very addicting.

I like the stories because they introduce us to a character...A character who the reader views as down + out and feels sorry for. Perhaps this character is poor which usually is the case. Then tragically something happens to this character, such as this person loses someone special in her life and the reader realizes that this person really wasn't that bad off before...She was just poor. Now she is poor and alone. Then by some seemingly fortunate circumstance, this character has the opportunity to go from a street urchin to a queen in less than a day so to speak. She gets to live in a mansion w/servants at her beck and call. She gets to have the best of everything money can buy, yet what she lacks is the love that she once had before when she didn't even have two nickels to rub together. She ends up living w/people who are very shallow and self-absorbed and there is usually a jealous villain/villainess out to destroy her. In the end, goodness prevails and the bad people pay their dues, but not before the main character suffers duly. The books usually have a bittersweet ending.

I like how they have a series so you can read about things from each character's perspective.

The older books were awesome because you would read like three books, then the last one would be a pr-equal which would take you back to the beginning and explain why things happened the way they did.

I reread the whole Dollanganger series on my Kindle after the movie came out on Lifetime. That is what Kindles are for: hiding embarrassing books!

Petals on the Wind was so, so trashy. If There be Thorns was super disturbing - I'm sort of wondering how they can make that one into a movie if they plan to do the whole series.

They are so cheap on ebay and amazon. I spent one summer reading all of them. They were so entertaining. I should have been embarrassed, but I wasn't!

Of course "Flowers in the Attic" is a classic and one of the creepiest and best books written. (Forget both the movies made...Just awful!!)

The rest of her books are addicting as heck.

I am reading "The Unwelcomed Child" right now. I am so enthralled I cannot put it down.

I am so bummed that Target and Walmart do not carry them anymore, I have to drive ALL the way to Barnes and Noble to buy them. But I will do anything.

I love V.C. Andrew's books because they take me to my own childhood, a place that was not too happy and I can totally relate to all the characters in full.
