We've been doing Saturday nothing music together at thr McLean community center for 18 mos - our now 2 yo loves it and it's a fun way to meet others

I second this, though I think using the word "ridiculous" may seem a tad bit too harsh.

At this stage of your child's life, if you take him out on daily outings, you as a mother are mostly doing it for your own benefit vs. your child's admit it. Nothing is wrong w/that by the way.

Your baby could care less whether he is at home on the floor doing "tummy time" or being pushed in a stroller at the zoo.

And to take a baby this age to story time doesn't make any sense.

An infant this age cannot sit still and be quiet unless he is napping.

I was a nanny for a woman who required me to take her 5 mos. old infant to weekly story times and it was hell. The baby couldn't sit still and screamed and cried. The library was not the place for a baby that age!

She also required daily zoo outings which didn't make sense either because the baby didn't know the difference between looking at elephants vs. looking at the trees in the backyard.

Anyway, if the weather is nice, I do encourage taking the baby outside just for the fresh air and for the parent to get out of the house.


My infant DD loves story time! She doesn't quite sit yet but she listens and loves it. She also loves watching the other babies and being around people. So, to each her own. I enjoy going places with my baby that are geared towards babies and parents. We are not leaving the house on weekends as much as I did on maternity leave. It sounds like others are in the same boat. I would love to hear any other suggestions people have!

Id check the arlington county website and look under events. The libraries have some off hours. The courthouse farmers market on sat or westover market on Sunday is slways fun for our family. Brunch afterwards depending on naps. Clarendon is fun to do brunch. Eastern market. A picnic at gravely point park by DCA is fun.

Meetup.com has a group called "Working parents of Montgomery County" or similar, and the activities and meet ups are geared toward times when working parents can attend.

Love the JCC in DC. they have lots of weekend stuff. around 6-8 months we did baby signs, then we did Music with Mr Josh (he is awesome BTW), we ar doing another round at baby signs with our toddler (she is really picking up now) and then doing gymnatsics in teh summer. All on the weekends at JCC. But the classes fill up super fast so you do have to sign up the day they open.

I have a 5 month old and am back to WOH full time. While on maternity leave, I did a lot of fun things with baby: baby & me yoga, PACE, FTMs groups, story time, mommy & me movies. DC enjoyed being out of the house and seeing other babies as much as I enjoyed the time to talk with adults and especially new parents. Now that I'm back to work and a bit more in the swing of things with that routine, I'd be interested in doing some things like this but I haven't seen any options like what you have during the week. Anyone know of any local library story times, baby & me yoga or other activities like that? Thanks in advance!
