I placed three hardy orchids in my garden two years ago in a damp, shady spot. Not only have the done beautifully, they have multiplied enormously. Look for Bletilla Striata i the garden center. They look unassuming in the pot, much like iris, but are quite beautiful in bloom. The spiked iris-like leaves add vertical interest as well after the flowers die off. They bloom in late spring (May/June)
