I haven't tried because crinums are a tropical and subtropical plant found in Africa. Are you thinking outdoors or indoors replicating indigenous conditions? (some people into orchids construct massive watering devices to replicate falling water from rocks in 80 degree weathers to get a fine mist). Although they are a perennial, I can't imagine they could act as one here in zone 5, 6. But why not try it? I try lupine and other plants that love cool English summers. They looks gorgeous until the really hot and humid part starts (unfortunately too soon) and then die, but still fun.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Crinum. Same with the western poppy. I don't know where to purchase locally but I would start with both locations (owned separately) of American Plant food and Merrifield Garden Centers.
