I have a friend with naturally dark hair who never dyed it...she started with a few grays, then a few streaks, then S & P, now at 49 she is totally gray but it is a beautiful silver color and she looks fabulous...definitely depends on your natural hair color AND the color of your grays as they come in.
I, personally, cover my few grays with the highlights that I have always had, even before the gray appeared.

Hell no! Grey hair is a fast track to looking old as dirt. I have a friend who is very pretty, but you can't even see her face through the greys. It is stunning how old she looks with that hair. Unless you look as her closely, you would guess 60 when in fact she is 40.

I am only 35 and would be 50-75% gray of I didn't color. Luckily, bc of my natural color I can get away with getting highlights about every 4 months. No way am I embracing the gray at my age.

Ditto! I'm 47 with a medium-to-dark brown that has nice natural highlights. I'm starting to see a few greys at the temple as well so we'll see how long it takes before I, too, enter the wonderful world of hair coloring.

I do lowlights to reduce the grey significantly. It avoids the skunk stripe effect when the greys grow in and gives me some flexibility about how often I have to do it. I don't mind a little grey but I do NOT like a lot of grey.

I think it all depends on your natural color and the amount of actual gray you have.

I am an Asian Female, who at 45 is about 85-90% gray already (!).
Since I have a very youthful face and my natural hair color is dark black to begin with, going totally natural at this stage would be a disaster. I would be telling the world my age, or even older and it would most definitely affect how people reacted to me.

Even now when I get busy and let my roots show, everyone makes a remark to me that my gray hair is showing and that I need to "take care of it" soon. It's like it bothers them more than me if you can believe that.

It's like having a second job, I have to remember to color my hair ideally every 2-3 weeks. Yes, the final result is much cheaper than cosmetic surgery. I get to shave off 10 yrs. which I may not always be able to do w/a $6.00 box of drug store hair color so I will count my blessings now while I am able.

To me it is a hassle to color my own hair, price-wise it is not too much. I mean, I use coupons and the hair-color is not too expensive. Revlon makes a $2.99/box one and you can always find kits at the Dollar stores.

I think coloring your hair shows the world that you CARE. That you care how about your appearance enough to make that extra effort to present yourself at your best. Especially in a professional setting. Can you imagine if the older news anchors let themselves go gray? For men, yes they look like dignified silver foxes, but for us women, we must maintain our youth and look polished.

When I see women who let their hair go gray, it gives me the impression that they are letting themselves go physically.
Like they have just succumbed to aging gracefully. They don't care how they look anymore.

It's as if they have reached a certain point in their life where they just throw in the towel and give up.

I will get there one day, but hopefully not before the ripe old age of eighty.

I will never, ever dye my hair. It is about 25% grey and I don't care. I don't have the time to maintain roots. I refuse to spend the money. I have accepted the grey and I don't let it define me.

I am good and gray now at the ripe old age of 39. So far i am hanging tough and my quality of life is completely unaffected by it. I am sort of watching it happen with curiosity.

I really don't have the $$ it takes to have my hair dyed. I guess if I could do it at home and it looked good, I would. I'm 39 and the white hairs (not gray) are moving in and getting comfy I look forward to the summer when my hair gets some natural highlights to kind of disguise the white hairs.

I might let myself go grey when I'm 80 but not before then.

Not me. I won't do Botox or plastic surgery, like so many I know, but my gray hair looks awful. I don't know why they seem different to me, but they do. I have seen women with lovely silver hair, but I am not one of them.

Hell no, I hate grey, I will never embrace it. It's aging.
I don't care if I am thirty lbs overweight, but I refuse to be grey.

So I'm 42, and the platinum highlights are definitely creeping on me. Normally you can't see them, but when I flip my hair to the other side...shabbam!...there they are, in their crowning glory. Sometimes I wear my hair flip, just to embrace it. Normally, I don't. I just can't fathom the thought of investing the time and money with coloring my hair, especially with my natural highlights still so obvious and, well, dare I say, attractive. Plus, I see so many other peers who color their hair, and when they stop, the greys/"platinums" just look so contrasting and awful. It seems as though I'm one of the few who, at this age, doesn't color my hair, and doesn't care to, either. Anyone else out there that can relate to me embracing the natural look, and have no qualms about it?
