OP here, while I'm not happy to hear that competition is high, I'm at least a little relieved to hear I'm not the only one having problems. Thanks for the RadPad recommendation, I'll give that a shot.

This is the time when grad students and new grads are thinking about renting an apartment, so you might get more bites at the end of the month or the beginning of next.

However, if you are in a desirable area and you are pricing it competitively, I see no reason why it's so slow. Usually, good apartments go quick during any time of year. Maybe you aren't presenting it properly. You may want to talk to a real estate agent friend about it.

I've always had great luck with craigslist. Make sure you have lots of good quality pictures.

wild idea - check spelling - maybe it doesn't show up on keyword searches

In addition - try to find a way to list on internal sites of big international institutions like worldbank, iadb.org and such.

Have you tried RadPad? It's really big on the west coast and catching on out here now too I believe.

It's all on Craigslist. No idea why it's not working for you. Not a desirable area or something?

I put my condo up for rent in Dupont Circle and had 5 people show up to the open house and an application to rent within 10 minutes. I priced it competively.

We have reduced the price and it is equal to or below everything else in our neighborhood. We accept pets but sadly our building has a weight limit on dogs. We've had to turn down three people due to that.

We haven't done an open house but at this point I'm not sure how we would get the word out, since we already used up our opportunities on the neighborhood list serves.

Sigh.

Reduce the price? We have three rental properties, and have had zero problem getting fair market for them. Two flipped in April and one in March.

Host an open house so serious people will show. Have applications on hand. Make offers within 24 hours.

We have an apartment in DC to rent and we're having surprisingly bad luck. Every other time we rented it via word of mouth alone, but this time nothing is working. We listed on Craigslist, Trulia, PadLister, and all the neighborhood list serves. I feel like I must be overlooking something obvious.

Any suggestions?
