How on earth do the people suing them expect to live together in the neighborhood in any sort of cordial state after this? I know that neighbors don't have to like each other but I can't imagine choosing to set up that kind of adversarial relationship on purpose.

I wish more people would build modern homes like that. The neighbors sound like ignorant fools with terrible taste. How can they possibly have a case unless they plan on reimbursing the owners?

This is the perfect example of why you have HOAs. Otherwise, someone can build something structurally sound that does not fit the character of the neighborhood.

It's too late for the neighbors now, they should STFU.

That's a shame. There are a few modernist homes scattered throughout my general area (Arl 22207) and when they're well-done, they look really neat. I think it's kind of cool to have a victorian, a colonial, a cape, a tudor and a modern house on the same block. This house doesn't look bad; I hope he prevails and doesn't spend all his money fighting the suit.

Well, hopefully the architect has read Mr. Plumbean and the Big Orange Splot. He can just invite them over one by one for a glass of lemonade

+1

I wonder why he wanted to build there, anyway.

I wonder if the owners can sue to recoup their costs since their plans were originally approved. I don't even want to think about how much they would lose if they make them tear it down.

I don't think that any person should be able to tell any other person what they can or cannot do with their property, unless what they are doing or not doing with that property is physically harming them. MYOB and buy the property yourself if you don't agree with that owner's views or actions.

What do you think about this? Should the neighbors have the right to halt construction or are they just being jerks?
