You will have so much fun at Hershey, especially if she likes amusements. And you can use the Hershey Hotel pool/sports courts since you are staying at the sister hotel. You can usually get discounted tix about $40-45 by staying onsite. Also, with each ticket, you can "sweet preview" the night before for free. Just bring your park ticket to the entrance and you can go in from (I think) 6-10pm. It is a real time saver to do a bunch of rides the night before and you get one hour early access the day of your ticket. The roller coasters that you will want to go on first thing in the morning are Skyrush and Fahrenheit. The waits will get into the 1.5-2hr range by noon. Stormrush gets busy too. For some reason the 2 awesome wooden roller coasters in the back never seem to have long waits so do that section later.

We go every year. So much fun!!

As the non-athletic daughter who was dragged along to every single one of my four brothers' baseball games and tournaments, I think it is wonderful of you to plan a girls' weekend. I wish my mom would've done this with me! I think she will enjoy just about anything you choose, but since you said she's athletic, what about hiking? You can easily access Skyline Drive trails from a bunch of different places, including Charlottesville, and you won't have to fight 95/beach traffic on a holiday weekend. Also love PPs suggestion of Philly if you can get reasonably priced Amtrak tix. Lots of historical attractions and if she's into food/cooking you can stop by Reading Terminal Market for lunch. Little Italy for dinner. And don't forget cheesesteaks!

Thanks for the great suggestions. I'm going to look at Hershey right now. My daughter loves amusement parks and we've never been there.

Hershey Hotel. Most of the spa treatments are chocolate scented. It is heavenly. They have tennis courts, bocce, croquet, basketball and an indoor swimming pool and fitness center. The outside pool is fabulous too with food/drink service. The Circular Room is so good and the Sunday Brunch is delicious (although pricy) Use one of the days to go to Hershey Park. Tons of roller coasters, shows and a water park inside the park. There is also a Zoo there and Chocolate World. If you want to travel a little more you can do some Amish stuff in Lancaster about 25min day trip from Hershey. But really, lots to do in Hershey.

We live in North Bethesda and we take 270 North to 15 to get there (passing Gettysburg) and the drive is easy (no traffic) and we get there in 2hrs.

if she is sporty and likes outdoors, how about a horseback riding weekend?

My husband and I did a day ride with them, but they have great overnight accommodations on the ranch. This is about 3.5 hours from DC.

What? You don't want to spend 700+ a night for a mother/ daughter weekend? Your daughter must be so deprived.

what about nemacolin? there is a kidz spa for ages 5-15 plus tons of outdoor activities.

My 6yo DD and I are doing Philadelphia as a Memorial Day trip. (My DH will be on a business trip and then concluding it with a stop-over in his hometown over the weekend.) I know my DD is younger than yours, but in researching this trip, it seems like there are a lot of fun options in Philly, if you are inclined to give it a try!

Again, I know your DD is older than mine, but we will be doing:

1) Please Touch Museum, and
2) Smith Memorial Playground and Playhouse

My husband and son will be at a baseball tournament over Memorial Day weekend and I'm hoping to take my 6th grade daughter on short trip over the holiday. Any suggestions? We've already done NYC a bunch. My daughter is sporty and outdoorsy, but also likes shows and loves to be pampered. I was looking at the Homestead, but you have to be 14 to use the teen spa.
