Why ask to have it cancelled when others might want to attend? It's voluntary, right?
Of course, if there's lightning they should go inside if that's an option (cancel if inside is not an option)

The one time I saw coaches letting kids practice lax when it was lightening out I raised holy hell. A lacrosse stick is a damn lightening rod right to your kid. Rain, eh, whatever.
