Ours is tile. Worked very well when kids had busted feet or ankles. A yard plastic chair also works if you need to keep a cast dry or foot sutures dry. turn the chair away from the spray lean back and have someone wash your hair.

We don't have one but it's a Godsend for my 80-year-old mom

I would not miss it, unless I suffered some sort of injury and couldn't stand for very long.

We have both, the bench and niches in our tiled shower. We just put it in last summer when we gutted the bathroom. I don't use it for storage because we have the niches, just for propping up my leg. And I sat on it when we gutted the other bathroom that had our tub so that I could hold our wriggly not standing at the time 10 month old and get her clean.

We took out 2 tubs and replaced with showers so I felt a bench was required in the event of a mobility issue: broken bone, post surgery, whatever you might need to sit for (that we haven't needed so far).

+1. Ledge for shaving and for storing things. Since our shower is so big, it just made sense to put one in for aesthetics/balance. Not because I really wanted one. It's also a good place for contrast tile, pretty slab of marble, etc. Makes the shower more interesting. But not to sit on.

I only rest my foot on it for shaving. Sitting on it, no thanks.

What everyone uses it for: to put your leg up while shaving. I can also sit on mine and shower the kids with the handheld shower near the wall by the bench. I can also store a few dry towels if I want to but never seem to do this.

Useful for shaving legs. And since its our only bathroom, its a nice height for my kid to stand and play with toys.

Do you actually use yours? If so, how?
