Where did you deliver that they didn't have blankets galore for you?

a kaiser hospital in california - coldest weather in years & years, and a private hospital in florida. i was freezing both times. they only have two thin blankets. i was so so so cold. i was in the hospital 3-4 days with each and all of it was pure misery. i am praying to not have to spend the extra day because of baby this time. i hate it so much.

Rice sock to heat up and put on sore spots (for during labor and after)

Lots of my own snacks, especially fresh fruit (hospital food was really bad and I felt bad asking DH to run out)

the thing I was most glad to have was my fuzzy slippers for the long trudge back and forth to the nicu. (though I definitely second your own soaps and shampoos)

Labor supplies: ipod, pillows, some scents, headphones, exercise ball, my liter sized camelback water bottle, and some light snacking options (though I hope to arrive so far along that there won't be time for snacking, we'll see)

Recovery supplies: a nursing pillow, my own socks, a cute outfit for the baby, yoga pants & flowy blouses, make up (yes, having a shower, doing my make up, wearing real clothes - totally made a difference in how I felt), camera

Definitely bringing my own soaps & shampoo. The hospital ones aren't even on par with what you get at a $50/night hotel.

OP here; my first birth was a c-section (planning a VBAC this time, but who knows!) and my OB was insistent that taking a shower would make me feel like a new person. He was totally right - but I would've felt "newer" if I had had some of my own supplies! The eye mask is great idea.

This next time I'm bringing my ipad (so much down time), my boppy, and things like makeup and my straightener to make me feel more human.

+1. All of this. I can't feel good unless my hair is clean and fluffy! I also brought the My Brest Friend pillow and some cute, comfy lounge clothes. I delivered at Sibley so they took care of the graham crackers and ginger ale. Congrats, OP!

I am closing in on eight months and am getting excited to have a baby! Then it dawned on me that I can also start using retinol again! So I am bringing:
Elizabeth Arden retinol capsules (normally I use CVS brand, but for a nice little treat...)
My Shikai Gardenia body wash (I learned my lesson last time with whatever the hospital had)
and since I haven't eaten sweets in a few weeks now, if i have a long labor that starts easy, I will be baking this banana cake: http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2014/03/double-chocolate-banana-bread/#more-11583
