Not PP, but my impression generally has been that the IB curriculum/creative curriculum is expeditionary and inquiry based, rather than TOTM, which is more like Montessori.

We are actually moving from a Montessori school to Cooke, which I selected because of its IB program, because I think that DD will do better with a program that is slightly more social than the Montessori program she's been in.

And I should say this is just one that I found by doing a search--it is not a DCPS page, so really only the first page of it is relevant. Basically, creative curriculum is play-based learning. I think that the IB elementary schools use creative curriculum rather than TOTM, at least I noticed that Thomson (another IB school in addition to Cooke) also uses CC for PK.

For those admitted, wait listed, and searching for options for round 2 of the lottery, I thought I'd pass along that the school we were matched with--H.D. Cooke in Adams Morgan (2525 17th St. NW)--is holding an open house tomorrow, Tuesday, 4/28/14, at 9 a.m. The newly-renovated school has an international baccalaureate program and uses the Creative Curriculum rather than Tools of the Mind for its PK program.

Although they filled all spots in the initial lottery and there is a wait list for PK3, there is no wait list for PK4, so it seems like it could be a good option for round 2. If you are interested in learning more, seeing classrooms, and meeting parents and administrators, please drop by tomorrow.
