I lost my mother to breast cancer 20 years ago. Had it all gone faster than it did, it would not be better or worse. Hard times. Communicate your love. Know that this is what it means to be a human being. Honoring love and being able to face the hard times with dignity and strength. Your mother wants you to not take this so hard. I know this much. Think like a mother. It will help you. Hugs and peace and love to you.

OP, I am so sorry for your news. Hearing something like this -- there really are no words. I've been through the death of close family members to illness several times and it is heart wrenchingly difficult. I will keep you and your family in my thoughts.

Hi OP - a very good friend of mine in her early 80s was diagnosed with a type of leukemia over two years ago. They gave her a prognosis of 6 months. She did a lot of research and found an out-of-state experimental program and is alive and in good health and spirits now. I'll find the name of the clinic - I think it is in Texas, and posts back the type of leukemia and name of clinic.

I am so sorry. I lost my mother to cancer suddenly, too. It is hard, but you will be happy that you can spend some time with her.

I went through the same thing with my mom. Be with her every day and tell her you love her.

I am so, so sorry OP. I went through something similar with a parent's cancer diagnosis. There really are no words. Keeping you in my thoughts.

OP, you sound like a very supportive daughter and step daughter for traveling to see your mom and devastated stepdad. Hugs.

Very sorry OP. Sometimes life turns on a dime, and not in a good way. Hugs.

Hi all.

Just need a place to put this, I guess. My mother found out yesterday that she has leukemia. Not sure of the details yet, but acute somethingorother with a window of a few weeks to a few months.

I am floored and sad. My brother lives overseas. I'm a single parent (thankfully with a cooperative ex). I'm worried about my stepdad, who is shattered. My DC and I are headed out there next week, and he'll be missing some school for this.

This is heartbreaking.
