I don't know anything about this particular guy bc I haven't read the articles but judging from the headlines I think he was a poor choice and I am sad for CoC.

However, many college presidents have no or little prior work experience in education. Being a college president is mostly a fundraising/ administrative / public affairs position. It's often former public figures, etc.

It's strange that conservatives are so afraid of free speech. Are we supposed to pretend gay people don't exist? It's the double standard about freedom that I don't understand. You can only be free to live your life the way conservatives think you should live. They make up crazy conspiracy theories about sharia law infiltrating the states and then they are the first ones to start imposing religious codes in the law. They are so filled with hate for gays, for immigrants, for people of other races (mr. Bundy being the latest example). My kid got in to C of c and chose elsewhere. I wish he had gone just to join the fight. State lawmakers should let teachers teach.

What's next? Book burning? Shameful.

This is a public college, not faith based.

Many of us are asking a similar question regarding the current potus.

Please don't try to take this thread into some ridiculous political tit-for-tat….It's tiresome. He won. Twice. Get over it. You'll have another chance in a few years….

Seriously. He won HUGE. Both times. Demolished his challenger. Didn't even need a SCOTUS ruling.

Many people put getting their goodies ahead of the national interest when voting. Others were foolish enough to believe him. Remarkably, 40 % or so still do.

Remember that the next time you use the excuse "but Bush..." Talk about tiresome.

McConnell's hiring was the fault of the state legislature. The faculty and student body are pretty upset.

I'm the PP. I know it's the state legislatures fault. My original post wasn't written too well (probably distracted), but I still can't believe this type of thing is happening…Separation of church and state, anyone….? Again, SO glad my kid has enough sense at the tender age of 18 to stay FAR away from the South. Sorry, Southerns, don't mean to offend, but if you're truly enlightened you would recognize some of the problems that continue to fester in the the South. FWIW - I would probably say the same thing about some areas of the Midwest and I grew up there!

Wow! Unbelievable. I would be so upset if my kid had chosen College of Charleston.

1. I didn't know CofC was public, I knew a kid from my HS who went there and played football.
2. A public university should not be in the business of deciding which books, plays, or films are appropriate! Goodness gracious, whatever happened to separation of church and state? These are obvious Christian/Catholic values being imposed on the students at CofC and USC Upstate. I'm glad I don't live in SC so my will kids have better in-state choices for higher education.

I found this article quite dismaying. I would be really upset with this choice to lead the school if I had a kid there. What do others think? Does it matter what the views of a College president are?
