Have you ever been to these? What are they like?

Anyone else going to the Maryland Deathfest? I'm disappointed Ulver dropped off, but happy Agalloch is their replacement.

The Fillmore in Silver Spring seems to have a fair amount of metal shows. My husband saw Slayer there recently.

I'm not really a metalhead, but a bunch of us are seeing the Steel Panther show at the Fillmore on 5/16. should be a hilarious show, though not so much sludge or death or doom.

sounds like you need to just look for shows at the places 13:18 recommended and head to a show - i think concertgoers tend to be a friendly bunch.

OP here - Yes, this is a good area to see shows. I meant that it's hard to be a 'head in the sense that I don't tend to meet many like-minded people. I prefer doom, sludge, death.

What kind of metal are you into? There are so many subgenres. I listen mostly to melodic death, black, doom, post-rock, and post-metal.

I think this is a great area for metal fans. Lots of venues have metal shows -- Empire, the Filmore, Rock & Roll Hotel, Ram's Head, tons of smaller venues in Baltimore.

Which suburbs? There are small venues around.

I'm a 42 year old metalhead looking for other folks into the scene/music in the area. What shows do you attend? Are there any local bands you support? It's tough being a 'head in the suburbs
