We are very happy at Heritage as well! Great caregivers, well organized, and super affordable.

Heritage is really a good deal compared with many places in the area. I know they do have waitlists, but it doesn't hurt to get on one. Our son has been there for a year and a half now and is thriving and has very loving relationships with his teachers.

I recommend Heritage childcare center. I am not sure of the waitlist since my child enrolled in the 1yr old room. We like it so far. The caretakers are loving and caring. My DC is always happy, hugs teachers, waves good bye to all if them, not only those in his class.

Also, I find it affordable in comparison to daycares in DC.

Join the Brookland Kids listserve--it's very active, and open to people from other neighborhoods. It's right across the line from West Hyattsville. Lots of posts about nannyshares

We used the center at the NARA on Adelphi and were pleased with the infant room. We LOVE the toddler room there.

Thanks for this. I had joined PG County Parents listserve but that doesn't have a whole lot of traffic and covers the whole county. I'll join these too and see if there are other recommendations. Perhaps more people on those groups would have in-home or nanny share recommendations too since most of the centers recommended have pretty long waits.

This is a little far flung but we have made it work for us living in the same area - Bright Horizons at the IRS in New Carrollton. We've been really happy with the center and I am pretty sure there is not a wait list right now for infants as a couple just aged up to the toddler room. It's also right at the NC metro station if one of you has to metro in to DC. Of the list above, Heritage, St. Ann's, and St. Jerome's all had waits when we looked, as did NARA Easter Seals. Never heard of Rheema and while we've known people with older kids who liked Greenwood, the director seemed really disorganized and the center seemed very chaotic when we visited.

Have you checked with Sunshine daycare?

I was very happy with St. Jerome's. My children were very happy there and flourished. There are very well educated and professional families and caring teachers. Strong catholic tradition.

PS There are a lot of SAHM's in the neighborhood who might be interested in taking care of your child along with their own in their home. My friend (who is friendly, college educated, & a great musician) did this for a mom who needed care for her baby and it worked out well.

I posted on the main preschool forum but I'm guessing my chances of getting a response are better here in the PG County forum.

Well, we're really late on figuring out infant care and are moving to Hyattsville. If you have a center to recommend that doesn't have a 1+ year long wait list, or a fantastic in home provider for infants, please do share. I'd really like the childcare to be in West Hyattsville, either near the metro, the arts district, or the elementary school. Also open to a nanny share of sorts but I'm not sure how common that is in Hyattsville, so if you'd recommend that going the route, any suggestions as to how to find other families? Looking for a fall start.
