We have a family rule that no pictures or videos are posted online without the knowledge and consent of the people in them.

As for asking the parents - since they're family I would do so unless I already knew they'd be fine with it. If my kids are posting pictures with their friends in them though I certainly don't make them get their friends' parents' permission, so I don't think "always get parental consent" is valid, depending on the situation.

You should ask the parents, btw.

My teenage stepson absolutely HATED to be tagged in family photos, and subsequently took down his FB account (most kids are using Instagram now anyway). So I would definitely ask her, and let her know you want to be respectful of her wishes and that you're only interested in posting it because you would like to share how much fun you had with her on your page. If he says no and you respect his wishes, then he will really see you as someone he can trust.

If he posed for the picture, I don't think he needs a heads up. If its a candid action shot he wasn't aware of, you could let him know. I'm guessnig this is from Easter- so a family photo is no biggie while stuffing 12 peeps in his mouth might be. My kids are 16 and 14, neither are that active on FB now anymore. Even if your GS is embarassed, it shouldn't be that big of a deal. Hopefully this is the worst picture of him on the interwebs.

I have a 14 yo (girl) and I usually give her a casual heads-up when I'm going to post something about her on FB. That gives her a chance to object. Only once has she asked me not to post (because she didn't like the way she looked in the photo.)

Post it but don't tag him.

Some kids would, some kids wouldn't. Why don't you ask him?

I'm a step grandmother to a 15 year old with whom I am close. I have never raised a teenage boy. Would he be embarrassed if I posted a fun picture of the two of us on FB?
