I've heard that there are camps available for the non-summer weeks when Barcroft is off, but I can't give specific information. (I almost bought a house in that boundary, but ended up buying elsewhere, after doing some research.) A friend taught there up until a few years ago. She said the school is great and the principal is fantastic, btw.

If you want 8 weeks of summer, that would be the regular school year calendar - there are only 9 weeks of summer in the regular school year calendar this year.

Kids who go to Barcroft still have 6 weeks off in the summer (and two weeks in October, two weeks in December, and three weeks in the spring). It isn't literally "year-round", just modified for more frequent, yet shorter, breaks.

The school can't require you go on the year-round schedule, even if you just moved here.

It may be "can't turn you down" for Randolph, but it won't be automatic. There will be something to fill out.

Barcroft parent here: Your kids go to Randolph if you don't want the year round schedule. Not sure if you need a transfer to do that. It may be automatic. Call the school and ask. But before you do, consider the benefits of the year round calendar--both academically and for working parents.

We're looking at rentals in the Barcroft Elementary school zone. Barcroft seems like a great school but we're not sure about the year round schedule since we like to take longer breaks during the summer. Does anyone know what happens with families who are zoned for Barcroft but don't want the year round schedule?
