All you ladies screaming that everyone knows a home dye job, I can't tell the difference. I am a professional and have never noticed a bad dye job, only a grown out job, where the roots show.

For those who asked who colors at home - I do. I paid for professional color for a year. I was unimpressed. It did not look much different, it faded just as quickly, nothing will stop my roots from growing in quickly, and it was time consuming and expensive. I also found that once a stylist colors my hair, they stop spending time on the cut. So I pay more and get a worse cut. So I went back to doing it at home.

You went to the wrong stylist.

I agree it is best to pay the extra $$ and have a pro do it if it really comes out uneven.

Sometimes uneven can look nice, like highlights or even ombre, but if it comes out looking like an amateur did your hair, then I say it makes sense to pay a professional.

Nothing like walking around w/haircolor that screams, "CVS Haircolor!!"

OP here - didn't know if i just stink at this or it's time to go to a pro. My free time is typically measured in minutes, not hours, so I was trying to cut corners ... Also I'm in denial about how gray I am. Guess I need to give up and just find the time. Thank you for the advice.

OP - just get thee to a professional before you make things worse.

You can spot a home dye job from a mile away, and no I am not a stylist - just a woman who's been coloring her hair for 15yrs and I tried many times to color my own hair. yucko....

Dry hair will absorb more color. Be sure that your hair is well-conditioned, and consider deep conditioning before dying.

Are you coloring all over every time? You can get a gadget to help you just color your roots.

Any tips? I feel like I'm consistently getting darker and the front and bottom. Is that just the more damaged hair absorbing more or am
I just really bad at this? Also do I actually follow timing instructions or leave it on an extra 5-10 mins?
