Hi-check out the FCPS AAP website for all of the info you seek.
In a nutshell, your child will take the NNAT in 1st grade and CoGAT in 2nd grade. Based on these scores, plus teacher recommendations and work samples will determine ulkmate entry into AAP for 3rd grade. Once in, your kid is in through 8th grade. AAP status does not influence course choices in high school.

Subject: AAP for dummies - Please explain how this works
Can someone explain how AAP works in FCPS? My child is assigned to a good school that does not have an AAP program. There is an AAP center up the road. Does my child just score high on an SOL test and then get recommended for AAP? Is there a special AAP test that I have to opt in to have my child take?
If I choose to keep my child at the current elementary will that limit any AAP classes they can take in middle or high school?
I grew up out of state. I remember having high test scores as a child and my parents deciding not to move me to an AAP school. I had no issues taking AAP classes in middle and high school. I'm wondering how these things work in FCPS.
