I can relate to your daughter wanting to keep things. Would it help to take pictures of some things like the math test pages or scan them in? Build a Besr box could be used to store dome items. Make collage of Hello Kitty wrapper and other small papers and hang on wall. Build a Bear box could be used to store small papers for future collage.

Just one note - if she doesn't know how to begin cleaning and organizing she's going to struggle with it. If she's not used to it she may need some guidance in creating "keep", "donate" or "toss" piles (or something like that) and how to organize her things.

There is no way it would take 3 hours to clean one room unless ut was hoarder style, roach infested disgusting...in which case that would be your negligence. So, the 3 hours was too much. Also, did she know what she was supposed to be doing? Did she have a plan? The fact that her room was in that bad of a state makes me think you don't hold her accountable for a regular cleaning routine.

DD's room is beyond horrible. Yesterday she found out about an event she wanted to attend this afternoon. I told her we'd clean her room for three hours, then go. She begged to clean by herself for the first hour. When I arrived she'd done NOTHING. I attempted to help but she was so hysterical and whiny that i gave up.
I told her I was so disappointed she hadn't done anything for the first hour, and was being so difficult that I was finished helping, she needed to clean by herself and the event was off. She is in her room hysterically crying now.
