I wear St John almost year round. It's worth a trip to the St. John outlet. It's especially good for plus size. I see a lot of senior women in St John.

I would go to Bloomingdales and see if Elie Tahari fits you. It's much more polished than talbots. Talbots is fine for business casual.

Women lawyers often wear pants, although not to court and sometimes not to client meetings. Depends how formal your firm/clients are.

OP Post 50 and plus size is tough. Talbots, R lauren to get started, then find a good tailor.

Department stores -- Nordstrom, Macy's -- you have to wade through a lot of inappropriate stuff at Macy's, but they do have some nicer Tahari etc suits in larger sizes.
