Schools aren't an issue for us yet but I hear ok publics and then just risking charters. Well cross that bridge when needed

And there it is. I amazed at how long this thread lasted without such a comment from someone who doesn't live in Columbia Heights.

It's only 1200 sq ft. That's really small so as long as you are only a couple and can manage clutter, it's a great area. We are over on 10th St but closer to Logan Circle. There are always incidents - from break-ins and thefts to murder (yes, it happens) - but you just have to always remember you are in the city. That's part of the package.

It is a bit narrow.

What about public schools in the neighborhood?

A bit pricey for that size, no basement, right on Sherman (very busy). That said, LOVE the neighborhood.

You'd be a fool not to buy. The houses were going for half just a couple of years ago. The access and ongoing development means that you are getting into a neighborhood that you will be locked out of in another few years.

I don't know what construction is scheduled. As for safety, I've lived in the neighborhood for almost 15 years and never had a problem (knock on wood). I run at night often and feel fine. That said, I do recognize that I live in a city. Our house has an alarm, we don't leave anything in sight in our cars and I don't walk down alleys late at night.

Is the neighborhood safe? Have you heard anything about the construction scheduled for that block?

Thanks!

This particular home seems to be in an area undergoing a lot of development.
The parking lot next door is going to be turned into a grocery store.

Anyone have any insights to this neighborhood?
