There may be demand at your school, but at ours there isn't. The wait lists are strictly an issue for AAP center schools and very large schools.

In Montgomery County the aftercare is run by private companies. Do they have subsidies? I wouldn't think so.

We would not pay if it was raised. Care isn't worth an increase in price. We wouldn't do the afterschool activities either meaning there would be less offered at the school. Why can't more people pay for aftercare if they want it? Why does that have to be a subsidy as well?

I'm currently on the wait list but I believe it is priced on a sliding scale. We would not get subsidized and I would not mind if they raised prices for the people who do not qualify for a subsidy, especially if it meant less demand.

It's basically subsidized childcare, and there are a ton of people, mostly immigrants, who are in desperate need of low cost childcare.

SACC is not part of FCPS. It's run by the county.

I do agree they should charge more, given the demand, provided they continue to offer a sliding scale for those who cannot afford full price.

Some schools are just too big. A school of 800 plus will have a hard time accommodating all it's students in aftercare. The schools that are 600 and below don't really have a problem.

Supply and demand. Pretty simple concept.

The schools are overcrowded and there is no room inside for more SACC rooms. Students have their classrooms out in trailers while SACC rooms sit empty all day inside of the school buildings. They won't put SACC outside in trailers for "safety reasons" even though kids have classes in trailers all day long.

Why won't they county just raise the price instead of cutting it completely?

The price is only a few hundred a month raise it to like 600.

Think about it, the waiting list is 18 months long and you can only sign up 18 months in advance. Most SACC don't have any Ks.

SACC costs the county money, it's not a profit center. Fairfax is cutting social services left and right, and SACC is no exception, sadly.

Why don't they open up more centers and charge more?

It would be very profitable for the county and parents would definitely pay for it.

The list is so long right now that no kindergartners are even in SACC.
