3 mil. We are looking at retirement in NYC, a two bdrm apt in Manhattan with a monthly maintenance under 3k per month.

The psychological limit for me would be based on size. We have 2 kids and don't need or want a large number of bedrooms. If we could find our 4 bedroom dream house in a great location there would be no real upper price limit assuming unlimited finances.

Probably $1 million. I'd opt for smaller, nicer homes. I'd prefer 2-3 smaller houses as opposed to one huge one. And honestly, I wouldn't spend near $1 million in other areas of the country.

No line for me. If money is no object I would probably spread the money over multiple properties in different locations - but I'd go pretty big.
