LLBean Signature has some cute leather tote bags.

I usually don't post here since I am so not fashionable but I thought I'd chime in since I carry a tote every day. I have a Kenneth Cole leather tote I bought at Costco a couple of years ago. It's very lightweight so you may want to look into that brand as well.

Great bag -- much better choice than Longchamps, which are ubiquitous on HS and college campuses.

"Heavy" is about the only downside I can see. I assumed from the word "tote" that you meant one of those LL Bean boat totes. Had you meant that I would suggest you make sure it has a zipper.

I use a Sally Spicer tote as a purse sometimes. Very sturdy, with multiple pockets. Not terribly fashionable, but good enough for me.

I think this is particularly true in the case of an everyday bag since you need to find something sturdy or else it could start falling apart or appearing very worn. I speak from experience. I'm currently carrying a Michael Kors saffiano leather bag and it weighs a ton.

I see a lot of people using those nylon Longchamp totes as everyday purses. Does anyone have any opinion on those or cheaper knock-offs.

I'm not crazy about those nylon totes. I guess they seem too ubiquitous to me - the young, hip kids using them look cool, but that's cause they are young and hip, not cause of their bag, I think. Older and/or less otherwise cool-looking people just sort of look stodgy. I think?

But they do seem really practical. Maybe worth it for that reason alone.

I can buy one nice all-purpose bag and wanted to get a neutral colored simple leather tote and use it for everything from casual to church. The only exception would be super formal like an evening wedding or the Opera. Is this ok?
