I'm from Michigan, west Michigan, that is. I've been to Traverse City and Charlevoix, both beautiful areas of the state when nice, but that was when I was younger. What attracts you to that part of the state, other than how nice it is, if you've never been there before?
In my experience, the whole Traverse City/Charlevoix/NW part of the state along the lake is really nice and you can't go wrong, but the people who have cabins and spend lots of time up there might disagree.
Good luck. Northern Lower Peninsula Michigan along the lakes is as beautiful as it gets.
