Usually not and it is a piss poor way to do business.

They often don't--and if they do, they take longer than if they are making an offer. (Because if their first choice falls through, they might dip back into the pool.)

Time length varies, and it depends on how many people are involved in the decision making. I generally reach out after two weeks has passed, but often then they still don't respond.

McKinsey IMO was the best experience i've ever had. Extremely professional - a partner called me back personally to say that I didn't get a job and then explained in detail what the hiring committee thought and what I can do to be a stronger candidate in the future.

Shit firms that worry about lawsuits i guess don't.

There is nothing wrong with your husband giving them a call to see where his status is after an acceptable amount of time (2 weeks). It will show that he's really interested.

It's rare that they let you know anymore. Pretty rude, but that's the way it seems to be.

I had 3 interviews at one local university for a job and then not another word, even though I was thinking I'd probably get an offer. I kind of clued in when my two emails a couple weeks later went unanswered.

Usually -- about 3/4 of the time I heard back after an interview. But there were places that were pretty disheveled and I never heard back. I'm sure if I had reached out, I would have gotten a rejection -- but I didn't think I should have to be the one doing that.

If I was interviewed, I've heard back with one exception.

On the hiring side - we have an HR department and every candidate is notified. It can take a really long time, though.

I work for a recruiting company and sometimes the decision making process can take weeks. Hiring managers have projects, go on vacation, conferences, etc. We ALWAYS get back to the candidate with an update and especially to let them know if they were rejected.

Rarely. On my last job search, I interviewed with probably 10 different places (not mentioning the insane number of resumes/applications sent out...) and I only got one notification that I wasn't selected when the choice was between me and one other person.

Small business CFO here - if we interview someone, we absolutely let them know whether or not they advance through the process. We don't respond to every applicant, as we get so many for every opening.

My husband is job hunting after working for the same company for a couple decades. He's had a few phone interviews/in person interviews. One particular company, he has had 2 phone interviews (with 2 different people in the company). The last one was about a week ago and went on for over an hour and a half. But he hasn't heard anything since. With an hour and a half interview, I'd think they are at least somewhat interested in hiring him...but since he hasn't heard, should we assume he didn't get the job? Do most companies at least notify you when you don't get selected? Or is it typical for more than a week to go by without hearing anything?
