Do you know the hosts well enough to reach out and ask for clarification? Is the party being held at a hotel like the Pierre? Private club? Restaurant? Right after the ceremony or in the evening? If it's at a hotel or private club, especially in the evening, I'd definitely go with a suit and try to figure out what a city chic shirt/tie combo might look like. A less formal venue along with the city chic dress code might indicate they do not need to be as dressy (I'd still probably have him wear a suit for the ceremony though)

That was not chic. My sons would be horrified.

We went to a ritzy, fashionable Bar Mitzvah in NYC 2 years ago and almost all the boys wore suits -- which were then peeled off over the course of the evening so by the end they were in undershirts and pants, and dripping sweat from dancing.

Oy vey! Your poor kid. Zara is probably a good place to find an outfit, like the others have suggested.

Feminizing the boys so soon. What a shame.

Black pants, black (or dark) dress shirt, maybe dark skinny tie or dark jacket? Not khakis and navy blazer.

Nice jeans, button down, dress shoes. Maybe a skinny tie or a black jacket if he is into that.

This made me laugh. I have no idea but my immediate thought was to ask a gay male friend or colleague.

I don't know of any boys that I can think of that would dress in anything that would come remotely close to "city chic". Now if it said "Country Club Prep" then I could point out lots of examples....

This is OP--city chic is the instruction on the invite.

In NYC, for a bar mitzvah on a Saturday night. How would you dress your kid for this? Serious question--he wants to look like the other kids who attend.
