I think DC would love to be accepted at a very selective school, it would be a confidence booster. I also know I have not pushed DC nearly as much as some other parents, because I would want the motivation to be internal, not external. And maybe I'm wrong thinking DC needs a more low-key situation.Anonymous wrote:Anonymous wrote:No, but I'd kick myself for not pushing DC harder
In my heart though, I know DC would be better off at a less competitive place
If you know DC would be better off NOT going to an Ivy or similar, why in the world would you push DC to position him/herself to be admitted to an Ivy and kick yourself if DC doesn't get in?? This makes zero sense. Isn't the sole reason for going to an Ivy (or similar) school because you think that somehow you/your child will be better off (however you define that) for doing so? WTH?
I DO second-guess myself though. I believe DC will not respond well to the stress of a selective school because there has been almost no academic stress so far in life, it's alien. Maybe I should have provided some stress, similar to how we vaccinate kids so they can handle pathogens later. I think my parenting style may be more "Boy in the Bubble"

Julliard is very difficult to get into. Kudos to your daughter!! She must be extraordinarily talented.Anonymous wrote:You imply that Ivies are the only selective schools. My kid got into Julliard though and I'm beyond thrilled for her because this has been her dream since third grade.
I couldn't care less that it's not an Ivy.
Anonymous wrote:No. There are hundreds of great colleges in this country and doing well at any one of them will serve any child well. Think about all the people you know now - you probably have no idea where they went to college and most of them are likely doing very well. I'm thrilled at the colleges my kid has gotten into even though they are not Ivies.

I know it's superficial and it's probably not even the right fit but they do have a lot of cache. I am glad I'm not trying to pay for it, however.
