Can anyone provide a link or suggest a store to look at some options?

this is 19:12. my daughter is 5, and my son is 3. she was totally fine in her loft bed around 3.5 (we purchased it 1 year 11 months ago). we got the low loft due to her age. for an older child i would probably get a higher loft if i had the right dressers to stow underneath. it's definitely more storage than anything else (and fun factor of being up high). we have a reading nook under there but haven't really found the right lighting.

i think for anyone living in smaller housing the lofted beds are ideal just for storage. we actually sewed our own custom tent, bottom coverings and when she is too old for it my best friend will make it into a quilt for her. i like how the loft is sized so you can slide dressers right underneath.

My two girls share a bedroom by choice (three years apart) and we got them a loft bed thing that has storage.

We gave them about 8 or 10 to choose from and they decided on one that had storage over a "twin over a full" because they wanted the most empty floor space possible left for playing.

We got a low loft bed to save on space--we live in a small apartment. It has space underneath for a bunch of toys, although it's mostly storage, not so much "play" space. I can see it lasting at least as long as we can stay in this house; not entirely sure how long that will be, though!

how old are your kids and how long have you had it?

I was thinking of the low loft for my just turned 6 YO and was not sure if we really only had a year left of it.

we have a maxtrix modular bed. we have a low loft with tent on top and a slide. we are going to drop the slide and bunk my second child (just got our shipment today). underneath until we are ready to have him be on top of another bunk (pregnant with #3).

if you have a few hours to build it, i highly recommend "send me to my room" (online drop shipper).

The legs come off, so if DC hates it later (and if younger DC doesn't want it at that point), we will just lower it down to be a normal twin bed.

In the meantime, it's great. Silly and not the least bit necessary. But the kids love it.

We were warned by several people not to buy the plastic ones used as they have holes and if water gets in, mold starts (just like a bath toy). We got the little tykes plastic twin bed. It was a huge problem as our child climbed to the top and keep jumping into the bed. Needless to say it lasted 5 minutes and we took it back. I would not do it if your child is a jumper or climber. We considered another fun one but it didn't pay as PP said, come 6-7 they outgrow them.

See if you can buy one on craigslist. Otherwise, anticipate kids liking it from maybe age 3-7. By third grade, kids are usually "over" it.

Better if you have someone to hand it down to, like a younger sibling?

Anyone actually have one of those big kid beds that are meant to look like a firetruck or race car? Or one of those semi-lofted ones with a play space underneath? I'm trying to figure out if they're worth it for a few years of fun for the kid or does the novelty wear off rather quickly?
