Another person who is surprised that this doesn't get more press. Good for the DCPCS for doing these qualitative reviews of the school programs as a way for parents to have a strong way to look at school programs - not just test scores.

I hope that Abby Smith will take a look at the work that Scott Pearson is doing here and take this to DCPS.

thanks for posting this. It was very helpful for me to see a qualititative review of the school we are in (Haynes) and gratifying to see that its generally meeting its mission and to understand where its strengths and weaknesses lie. Also interesting to compare to other schools.

It looks like they haven't evaluated all charters and are picking ones to evaluate largely based on when their charters are up for renewal. The cover letter for each report says why they are evaluating that particular school.

Do all public charter schools get evaluated? Do they only evaluate certain ones?

Much better than gossip to get a picture of school functioning.

Yu Yings report from last year was very interesting to me. Helps me see the school in a different way.

Found this information really interesting - why don't they market this more?

I skimmed a couple--
Capital City PCS – Lower School generally looked good.

Hope Community PCS – Lamond had significant problems. One thing that's a deal-breaker for me is "In two pre-kindergarten classrooms, children were hitting other students or fighting over toys without any teacher intervention."

I'm surprised more people don't look at the charter school Boards ratings on the schools. Interesting that EL Haynes, LAMB and Two Rivers are some of the schools that were reviewed this year (as well as Options).

Perhaps I've missed these comments but this is interesting stuff to me -vs. just test scores.
