No wonder the movie sucked. DH informed me on the way to see Divergent that it was adapted from a YA novel, but the tickets were already purchased so we saw it anyway. Not much substance there.

Divergent is pretty bad. The Book Thief is good but keep in mind it's a middle grade young adult book.

A Fine Balance-- a Dickensian novel set in India, reminded me a bit of Orphan Master's Son.

Game of Thrones-- the novels are great. Each one is 1000 pages so the whole series lasts a really long time.

I just finished "A Circle of Wives" and "Turn of Mind" by Alice LaPlante. Excellent. Also loved "The Mapmaker's War" by Ronlyn Domingue. Recommend "The Hypnotist's Love Story" by Liane Moriarity was good, but I hated "The Husband's Letter". Am also enjoying "The Natural History of Dragons" and "Tropic of Serpents" by Marie Brennan.

I am reading Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet and finding it wonderful. I loved Goldfinch and Secret History.
Also Amor Towles' Rules of Civility - fabulous book.
The Golem and the Jinni was good. The Ocean at the End of the Lane is quick but stunning.

I never heard of any of those books.

But I suggest the Spellman Chronicles (it's a series) and anything by Faye Kellerman.

I liked Reamde-- great for a long, readable but not trashy book-- but I don't recognize some of your books so maybe our tastes are different.

My DH and I are finally going on a solo vacation and I would love some great book recommendations. Some books I have read recently and loved include The Secret History, The Orphan Master's Son, Americanah, and The Circle. Would love to hear your suggestions, thanks!
