The family is really close & I really don't see them sending her to board.

Why isn't she interested in attending the 5 day boarding program?

If they are closer to Ft. Worth, consider Country Day, Trinity Valley or All Saints- all in Ft.Worth and co-ed but good schools.

Thanks all for the replies. They are actually in Aledo ISD which is west of Ft. Worth. I am home visiting family right now and we talked about it today. She was very interested in in Hockaday but said that the commute just wouldn't work. What is the strongest co-ed school (in terms of academics) in Ft. Worth?

I was going to say Hockaday, too.

Agree that Hockaday would be a good choice but the daily commute from "outside Ft. Worth " to North Dallas could be a nightmare - I wouldn't do it. If they are closer to Ft. Worth, consider Country Day, Trinity Valley or All Saints- all in Ft.Worth and co-ed but good schools. Also,Hockaday does take boarders in high school - mostly girls from small Texas towns and international students.

I would echo Hockaday. I met some of their administrators recently while traveling and found them (and the description of curricular and other programs at the school) quite impressive. Good luck.

Yes, probably Hockaday.

Side note: When I was a girl living in San Antonio - 1950's - I had a friend who attended Holton, which was a boarding school then.

My freshman hall in college included a Holton grad and two Hockaday grads. Peas in a pod.

This depends a lot on where "outside of Ft. Worth" is (the DFW metro area is huge). Hockaday is going to likely be the closest to Holton. Ursuline is Catholic, but would probably be the next closest. That's about it for single sex schools. I grew up in the Dallas area and I'd say both are pretty different from Holton. There's a lot of old money at Hockaday and that matters more in Texas. If she's gifted and single sex isn't super important, TAMS is open to anyone in Texas (located by UNT) but is only for junior and senior year. It is really for your STEM standouts though, but a good option if she leans that way.

Anyone on DCUM who can advise about this? My niece would be a perfect fit for Holton. She is a fantastic student and really lives to learn and excels in the classroom. She is an organized self starter and is in the most challenging courses offered in her public middle school and her lowest course grade is a 97 all year. She is also a cute, social, and kind girl who is well rounded and enjoys sports. While she can play sports, she is not very competitive and prefers to play at a more casual level than elite/travel team/ varsity level. Currently she is in a nice suburban public school district, but they do not offer an IB program or have a magnet HS that she can apply to. I suggested looking into an independent school and they were very interested when I described Holton. They live outside of Ft. Worth. Any suggestions? Thank you!
