thanks so much -- can you help me understand the theory with the eating/drinking cold stuff? She did get a slurpee today as a treat after doctor's appointment and I'm now wondering if we made it worse! Poor kid is feeling like she's going to throw up with the post nasal drip, hacking, etc., (cannot sleep, obviously)

PP here. Try tea with honey if you want to go the non drug route. It coats the throat so that the post nasal drip doesn't cause irritation.

I have that problem during allergy season and for me it is caused by post nasal drip. Finding the right combination of drugs that can work is tricky.

Is she drinking/eating cold stuff? If so, I'd try stopping for 3-5 days and see if it gets better.

DC is 8. She has a terrible hacking cough. Pediatrician visit earlier today says it's allergies - Allegra, Nasonex, Benadryl, Delsym, fluids, ibuprophen (all per pediatrician). NOTHING is working and she is really hacking and coughing and is in a great deal of discomfort. Any ideas? She is hacking/coughing an average of once every two minutes (I'm lying next to her right now and it's more like once a minute) and she's really struggling. Breathing is normal (both from pediatrician exam today and listening to her now - no wheezing, etc.) TIA
