I have the force and it does not claim to be waterproof. I take it off to shower, and will take it off for swimming this summer.
I like it overall. It is a motivator to try to get more steps/activity in. I find I park farther away, walk up extra flights of steps, etc to try to reach the targets.

I swim twice a week minimum and I don't wear the fit bit swimming. I enter the number of minutes I swim manually.

Love it! They have great customer service too! My first one died after I'd had it a little over a year and they shipped me a new one free of charge.
