There's nothing to it. Turn off the power at the box. Unscrew the outlet and pry the outlet out of the wall. Untangle the wires of the outlet from the wires in the wall. (They should be twisted together.) Twist the wires of the new outlet into the wires in the wall. Put plastic caps on the twists. Shove it back in the wall and screw it down. Put the outlet cover on it.
It takes about 10 minutes to do. It takes about 30 minutes to go the hardware store. If you ask a hardware guy, he will show you all of the stuff you need.

I replace my own too but its more like $4 since you har to buy the receptacle
. It's also a good lesson to earn which breaker goes to which outlet in the house since its not always obvious or well labeled.
I do completely understand why someone wouldn't want to bother. Unless you're getting other major electrical work done, go for the handy man as it'll be much cheaper.

Thanks - so plus service call maybe $125 total?
I had them all replaced in my house with some other work, so we mostly charged an hourly rate + 15 or so for each outlet. Staples electric.

Handyman's start in NoVA at $60 per hour; electricians I've had come $175 per hour.
House Rep Jim Moran complains about $175,000 which for when in session is about $550 per day excluding all the genies (food, travel, free health care, full pension for remainder).

That's why a handyman makes more sense -- between $30 to $60 per hour.

Most electricians will tell you their price over the phone for a standard job like this. Most also charge a minimum fee, so it might just be the minimum, like 175, even if it takes 10 minutes.
