This happened to me three times in less than 4 months, right after my card company was purchased by Bank of America. They were great about catching it and removing charges, but I did really wonder what the hell was wrong with their card # assignment process and who was stealing my card # and how. (each time it was supposedly someone with a physical card - crazy.)

the worst part was that this all happened right after a tree fell on my house, requiring lots of purchases to replace stuff that had been ruined. (and with a short timeframe to do it to get insurance to reimburse.)

Who cares about credit card fraud? You're not liable for any of those charges.

Debit card fraud, on the other hand, is something to be concerned about.

The bad guys just run numbers till they get a hit. Computers can guess numbers rather quickly.

BofA has called me twice in the last 6 months about suspected fraudulent use on my credit card.

It happens to is pretty frequently. The credit card company always removes the charge and sends us a new card, so I am happy. Just the times we live in.

Same thing happened to us last year. Weird stuff, like someone in Australia trying to charge $1.20 to our account?

Credit card people told me we probably weren't doing anything wrong; this is just what happens now.

That little amount is the bad guys testing to see if it works.

Happens to us a few times a year. I'm fairly certain that it's being stolen by waiters.

None of our purchases have been unusual lately, and because we're not getting out much lately due to baby, we have possession of our card most of the time. The only recent occasion when we've handed it over was last Saturday at Iron Gate (dinner). DH just signed up with Uber this week. Could either of these things lead to our stolen cc number?

Yes. Anytime you use your card ANYWHERE to purchase ANYTHING - online or in person, there's a possibility of theft. Its just a 16 digit code, nothing more.

Happened to me last year. Someone tried to use "my card" at a Home Depot in CA, while I was in DC. It was flagged and I had to get a new card. Happened a couple of weeks after my dad died, so I wasn't tracking things well. In hindsight it seemed my statement didn't show up that month, so I'm suspicious someone got hold of my statement and made a fake card from it. But who knows?

I seriously doubt it has anything to do with Uber (love them btw) but maybe it is someone you know?
