PP here who said walkable will be BCC. I guess it depends what people mean by walk. To me "walkable" means 15-20 min on foot or less. There will be neighborhoods where it might be 30-40 minutes, but I don't consider that truly walkable. Maybe I'm just lazy.

I have a friend who lives in the apartment building that is between Westland Middle School and the Westbard Giant. When she bought there she assumed that given that there wasn't even a street between her apartment and Westland that that's where her kid would be assigned, but it turned out that they are assigned to Wood Acres/Pyle/Whitman. Anyway, I don't know if there are houses in that area in the same situation, but you can walk to both Friendship Heights and Bethesda from Westland. Bethesda's more of a hike, but it's along the Capital Crescent Trail so it's a nice hike.

Having said all that, I'd choose BCC over Whitman in a heartbeat, and did, but that isn't what you asked.

Agree with PP. Battery Park and other neighborhoods east of Bradley Blvd and south of Huntington Parkway are all walking distance or an easy bike ride to the metro. Here's the Bradley Hills boundary map.

Not true. Parts of Battery Park and Bradley Hills feed into Whitman and are definitely walkable to Metro.

My inlaws have lived there for 30 years and now have to walk around. People you know may have Some sort of ODs to get them through the gates like the blood bank ID.

From Whitman HS itself to the Bethesda Metro is about 40 minutes on foot. Less time on a bike, obviously.

Is this a change? When we lived west of the NIH campus, neighbors had passes to cut through.

If your husband would consider taking the bus to the metro, you may want to look for something close to the T-2 line which runs through the Whitman district and goes to Friendship Heights.

Also, BCC is a great school so if your husband is set on walking to the metro you should be able to find something in your size close to the Bethesda Metro at that price range.

You can also do the ride on bus to metro, or even the bus all the way downtown, if that's something he wants to consider. That will give you more options as most of the Whitman district is not that near to metro. I am 2.5 miles to Friendship Heights so it's more bussable than walkable. The area near Aberdeen Road/Huntington Parkway is about 1.5 miles to the Bethesda Metro.

you need to be on the west side of glenbrook road in battery park to be in whitman district or off huntington prky

We're new to the area and have decided that we'd like to move into the Whitman district, if possible. My husband would really like to take the metro to work. Are there any neighborhoods we should look at that are within walking distance to the red line? We can spend up to about 1.5 million, and we need at least 3 bedrooms and an office or 4 bedrooms.
