Why the reason for the bitchy response?


Not the PP who responded, but evidently the OP is concerned with a school that DOES have a waitlist for aftercare. Knowing there are schools with no aftercare waitlist doesn't help her at all, and actually came across a little "Nyaah, nyahh" to me.

CCPC is what you are thinking of. Call them and ask if they do prek. As they have a preschool program, I would be surprised if they didn't.

I've heard about the limited afterschool program at Lafayette. I think that's ridiculous for a public school.

I live in the neighborhood and the listserv is full of postings for afterschool nannies. For this reason.

Find out the name of the aftercare provider and email or call them with your question. Every year there are a number of parents in the same boat. I was last year, and got a quick response from aftercare saying not to worry, there would be room.

You need to name the schools if you want useful input. all DCPS are not the same. Some offer aftercare through DCPS, others run their own (through the PTA, etc.). Some schools have aftercare that fills up, others do not.

I talked to the principal of our IB school where we were accepted yesterday. It is a 99% FARMs school with DCPS-run aftercare. She had mentioned at an open house that the PK3/PK4 aftercare fills up fast, so we should get a form in as soon as it opens. When I followed up yesterday, she said that you apply for DCPS-run aftercare in the second or third week of August, and if you apply soon after it opens up, it should not be filled up. She also said the quality of the DCPS-run aftercare had gone up substantially and that that PK students are separated from the older kids. Good luck!

I am on the waitlist for several schools with numbers in the 20s, we did not get into any school outright. I realize that if I am called off a waitlist, I will have to take the spot right away. What I am most concerned about is getting into an aftercare program at the accepted school at the last minute over the summer. How have other waitlisted parents handled this? If accepted at the last minute, I know I won't have a enough time to give a month's notice to my private preschool.
