Aren't most of those infill McMansions built by companies to sell? So although people buy them, it's not like they have any input.

Our neighbors' house has been empty for a while - the previous occupants moved out and the family hasn't yet decided to sell. But at some point they will, I guess. The house is in a shape that could tempt an investor to break it down and build something new from scratch.

Is there anything we can do to prevent that they would build a McMansion next door? We're not in a historic disrict, although there are pretty much onjly colonials in our street.
