Good point, I'll point that out about the campuses.

My H and I both started out at GW for graduate school and switched out. I hate GW. I went to MD for undergraduate and loved it. I was a STEM major though so I think that might be why.

The schools are so different that I can't believe this is a difficult choice. Does the student prefer the urban campus feel of GW or the more traditional campus feel of UMD? Also, consider living costs. Many merit aid packages don't include housing costs which are very high at GW. I went to GW and received a very generous merit award (for all 4 years) but it did not include housing. I loved GW and had a great experience. But I also knew I wanted to major in International Relations so it was no brainer for me.

Having been to both, I like GW better

I think UMD is overall a better school, but I'd guess that they're close enough that you would have to examine it by major. Merit scholarships aren't always guaranteed all 4 years either.

He likes all of it, but doesn't especially like any one subject. He has no idea what he wants to do major-wise.

I'd choose GW. Oh, wait. I did choose GW.

Friend asked for advice. I wasn't sure what to say.

He has a significant merit scholarship to GW so they're actually the same price. He doesn't know what he's going to major in.
