It's pretty progressive.

Not a MV parent (another charter school) - however, I would take a look not at the PS/PK program, but the 2nd and 3rd grade program and see if you like what they are doing there. You won the lottery spot, which is tough to do. Are you going to stick with your private school until the 12th grade? If you enter MV now - you can stay there - and DCI.

However, make sure you like the MV program in the later years vs. what your private school offers.

No way are 'most' charters play based. By the time K rolls around its, reading, writing and math for a good chunk of the day in most schools. Public schools must adhere to state standards which are stricter than those for privates (some privates are tougher than public though), so you have to take that into account. What do you really want? WIS for immersion is good choice. Even MV, YY, the so called more desirable charters have up and downsides, so its complicated and you simply must investigate based on your own criteria.

Sounds like two good options.

I would say let your personal circumstances and lifestyle be your determining factor. And think long-term.

- Which one has the closest commute? or
- Which one aligns with you work schedules the best.
- Do you know any families that are going to either school (that helps kid with transition)

Remember MV now has a feeder IB middle school. With the private, you would still have to figure that out. Something to think about.

Choosing private with FA means they cannot afford it, that is a risky financial decision. Good luck with your decision!

We chose a language immersion charter over private school some yrs ago. Depends on how important language immersion is to you. BTW, most privates and charters are "progressive" at least for early elementary because they are play based which is "best practice" for this age group.

DS was reading and doing math in English before he entered preschool so we wanted him to be challenged which language immersion provided.

If you can afford to go private, then go private and leave the charter school slots to the ones who can't afford it.
